Alonso's Power Unit was at the end of its life

Managing Power Unit components becomes a headache for certain teams at the limit authorized by the regulations for the season. There Team Ferrari managed the situation as best as possible by running the Spaniard with a V6 at the end of its life with the risk of mechanical failure which finally occurred after 20 laps completed in the second session.

“We knew the Power Unit had reached its limits,” explained the double world champion. “There was a risk that we wouldn't finish the second session but it's been part of our program for several races now. It's always a shame not to be able to use all the time available even if I don't think it will affect our work too much. »

Fernando Alonso concentrates like the other drivers on the resurfacing of the Sao Paulo track which forces the drivers to regain their bearings. “The new track provides a lot of grip and it was very difficult to achieve a perfect lap because the behavior changes from one corner to the next”, added the Spaniard. “With a new track, the impact of rain is always an unknown element and it is impossible to make predictions. This would also have been the case in Sochi (Russia), but it didn't rain, so we have to be prepared for any eventuality. »
