Williams drivers react to Jacques Villeneuve's comments

A few days ago, Jacques Villeneuve, 1997 world champion with Williams and consultant for several channels including Canal + and Sky Italia, dropped a little sentence aimed at the Williams clan among our Italian colleagues which did not go unnoticed.

“The car seemed difficult to drive during the (Barcelona) tests. Kubica was the only one who was able to use his potential. Robert is the main driver who will develop the car and it is possible that he will knowingly make it more difficult for other drivers to drive. His dream is to run with this car, not to be the third driver, and I don't underestimate that. In his situation, I will do the same.”

Comments on which the two holders Sergey Sirotkin and Lance stroll were interviewed this Thursday in the Bahrain paddock, where the second Grand Prix of the season will take place this weekend. The two teammates did not seem perturbed by the Canadian's statements.

“Robert is a very nice guy and I see no reason for him to do such things, comments Sergey Sirotkin. It didn't even cross my mind. And honestly, whether it's Robert or anyone else, I don't see how you can knowingly direct a stable of Formula 1 in the wrong direction. »

"I don't know what he said so I'm not going to comment, indicates Stroll. Already last year, he said that I was the worst beginner ever seen in F1 and I finished on the podium, I started from the first row, I scored 40 points, just 3 less than my teammate (Felipe Massa, Editor's note) who had 16 years of experience in F1. I have other fish to fry. »

Robert Kubica must take part in several free practice sessions this year with Williams, after having long been tipped for the second starting seat alongside Lance Stroll this season.
