Lewis Hamilton wins tactical game

Did the lessons of the last Grands Prix cost victory to Red Bull to Montreal ? Accused of sometimes being too enterprising, the Austrian team ensured? And Woking took advantage of it.

It was at the start of Q3 that this Canadian Grand Prix took place. While Red Bull preferred to “ensure” by fitting hard tires to Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, McLaren took an offensive option with soft tires? Lewis Hamilton took advantage of this extra performance to take pole.

Forced to keep his soft tires at the start, Lewis Hamilton took the lead when the lights went out but was unable to escape even though no safety car came to help him either. After a few minutes, Red Bull believed in its strategy.

On soft tires, Hamilton and Alonso pitted on the eighth lap and left a track clear for the two Red Bulls. But because of a track that was too demanding for the tires, Webber and Vettel also changed tires before the 15th lap.

The wheel turned as the turns passed. Increasingly grippy, the track wore less and less on the tires. Hamilton took advantage and remained on the track after his second stop.

Using an offbeat strategy, Mark Webber retained first position for a long time but could not counter Hamilton?s comeback as his hard tires lost all competitiveness (50th lap). The Australian ended up returning to pass his last train and fell to fifth behind his teammate Vettel, on the pace but unable to tackle the first three.

Fourteen laps from the finish, Jenson Button completed the McLaren double by getting into a mouse hole while Fernando Alonso took a lap from Karun Chandhok.

This Canadian Grand Prix crowns the entire McLaren team. With a second consecutive double, Lewis Hamilton takes the lead in the championship (109) ahead of Jenson Button (106) and Mark Webber (103) and McLaren moves into first place among constructors (215) ahead of Red Bull (193) and Ferrari (161)
