Mark Webber: “It will be an interesting race”

How difficult it must be to attack the clock in qualifying when you know that on a regular basis, you will only be able to start 10th in the Grand Prix at best. This is the mishap that happened to Mark Webber this afternoon, who was inflicted 10 place penalty after the Singapore Grand Prix. But the Australian still set off with rage in his stomach. And it was with the third fastest time (1'37"464) that he concluded the third phase of qualifying for the Korean Grand Prix. And yet the Australian had opted for a different choice of settings than his teammate, whose top speed is 5 km/h below his own. “We took some potential out of the car for qualifying, he emphasized at a press conference. Not much but just enough to not compromise our qualifications too much while still gaining a little for the race. » With his 10 place penalty, Mark Webber knew he was condemned to make a comeback. And to help him, he favored a good top speed which should help him in his overtaking maneuvers.

“We didn't set the car to be extremely slow in qualifying, poursuit le futur pilote Porsche en Endurance. But we had to keep the race in the back of our minds. I am quite satisfied with this qualifying session. Maybe I could have gained two positions, but with the penalty it would have meant I would have started 11th instead of 13th. These qualifications were rather close. I think the race will be interesting. »

Tomorrow, we will therefore have to keep an eye on the Australian. He could well, as usual, make a comeback to the forefront of which he has the secret... And why not to the podium?
