The championship leader took his second pole position of the season this afternoon after Bahrain. The Dutchman who was 7 tenths ahead of Valtteri Bottas this morning in FP3, believes that it was free practice 2 which allowed him to start from first position.
“So far the weekend has been quite positive on a circuit which has always been difficult for us, recounts Verstappen. The improvements in FP2 really helped us to be in pole position today and I'm happy with that.”
But Max Verstappen knows it even more after Baku, it is during the race that we score the points.
“Of course there are no points today but it’s a good day nonetheless, insists the pilot Red Bull. We have to finish the job this time and take the 25 points we should have had in Baku.”
To be able to finish the job, you need a good race pace to hope to win. This is also what the Red Bull showed yesterday during the long stints in FP2, enough to give even more confidence to the poleman of the day.
“The car performed well yesterday in FP2 during the long runs and it behaved really well. So I’m very confident for tomorrow’s race,” announces Verstappen.
The two rivals in the drivers' championship are now at the same point in terms of pole positions. Two for Max Verstappen (Bahrain, France) and two for Lewis Hamilton (Imola, Spain). See you tomorrow at 15:00 p.m. to follow the French Grand Prix in live text on AUTOhebdo.fr.
