Personalized qualifications dreamed for Max Verstappen. While Charles Leclerc, third in the Drivers' Championship, will start at the back of the grid for his change of power unit, Sergio Pérez, the Dutchman's runner-up in the standings, hit the wall in Q2 on a still wet track. The Mexican will therefore have to settle for thirteenth place on the starting grid. Taking advantage of a drying trajectory in Q3, the reigning world champion signed what is only his second pole position of the season ahead of a surprising Fernando Alonso (Alpine). Despite rivals far away at the start, the pilot Red Bull don't expect a walk in the park in Montreal. The Spaniard has also warned: he will attack Max at the first corner.
“I never expect an easy race, commented Max Verstappen after qualifying. We remained calm in these difficult conditions, without making any mistakes. We made the right choices in Q3. I'm very happy to get this pole position and to be back here in Montreal in front of all these fans. I like the sensations on this circuit, especially on the curbs. It's like the good old days of karting ! I'm looking forward to this Grand Prix tomorrow. » See you this Sunday at 20 p.m. French time for the start of the race.
