Max Verstappen: “One lap not enough to beat Lewis”

The qualifying duel Grand Prix of Styria between Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Max Verstappen (Red Bull) this Saturday always turned out to the advantage of the British driver.

Best time in Q1, Q2 and Q3, the world champion constantly responded to the attacks of the Dutchman, despite being one of the benchmarks on wet tracks.

After setting a first time placing him already on pole, Hamilton was threatened for a while by Verstappen, but the latter made a mistake at turn n°9. The person concerned provides an explanation for his figure of speech.

“I guess it was Seb (Hag) who entered the stands, indicates the Red Bull driver. I understeered because of that and then I went wide, hitting the curb on the exit of the corner and lost the car. Anyway, it was not enough of a lap to beat Lewis »

Because the Mercedes driver in fact offered himself a new improvement in the process, which would not have allowed Verstappen to keep his potential pole. The latter, however, believes he came out of this tricky session well.

“I'm quite happy to finish second, proclaims Verstappen. Q1 and Q2 were good and I felt very comfortable but in Q3 it was raining more and more and with the extra standing water we were struggling a bit more and I wasn't as happy with the balance with a lot oversteer. »

The first corner tomorrow at the start of the race is likely to be lively between the two rivals.
