Mercedes takes responsibility with Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton lost the Monaco GP after being called to the pits by his team during the intervention of the safety car. If the pilot Mercedes had a few seconds to discuss this strategy with the stands, the engineers of the reigning world champion team made a calculation error since the Briton came out in 3rd position behind Nico Rosberg et Sebastian Vettel.

Toto wolff, the executive director of Mercedes Motorsport, wanted to apologize to Lewis Hamilton on behalf of the entire team. “We simply made a miscalculation,” confessed the Austrian, quoted on the official F1 website. “We thought he had a bigger lead. It was a decision made by the whole team… We were afraid that Sebastian (Hag) put on super soft tires and started again behind Nico… We had discussed it (with Lewis Hamilton). Temperatures were dropping and grip on the soft tires was becoming precarious, but we were wrongly influenced by the data. »

Despite this blunder which occurs just after Lewis Hamilton's extension, the Briton did not cause controversy by restraining himself in front of the press. “I immediately apologized after the race and I could see in his eyes that everything was OK between us.”, specified Toto wolff.
