Newey: “F1 will become a bit of GP1” in 2021

While the winter tests were an opportunity to study the Two-Axis Steering of the Mercedes W11, nothing says that such systems will still be visible in the future. The future regulation of the F1 which will be launched in 2021, plans to reduce significant gaps in the plateau by limiting the technical perspectives.

This path is not to the taste of the chief designer of Red Bull Adrian Newey so renowned in the championship for his ingenious discoveries in the development of single-seaters.

“I study the changes to the regulations carefully because it is a chance to understand new things. What I don't like is the general tendency through successive regulations to become more and more restrictive", confided the Briton on inews.

“The last big change in 2009 was a good thing because we no longer had as many restrictions, recalled the former technical director of Red Bull. But these new rules planned for 2021 are very restrictive and I think it's a terrible shame. F1 will become a bit like GP1, which should not be the case. This was accepted without taking into account people's opinions and only time will tell whether it is good for the discipline or not. »

The future regulation plans in particular to prohibit Two-Axis Management developed by Mercedes.
