Red Bull Racing faces one of the greatest challenges in its history by attempting to produce a car as efficient as the previous ones in line with the new regulations. If the new engine constitutes the main novelty, many other points require in-depth work from the engineers. The exhausts, which were a real advantage for the Taureau Rouge, will for example be completely revised. “The exhausts have almost no effect since they will have a single position and the turbo will take a lot of energy anyway”, explained Adrian Newey on JamesAllenonF1.com. “We have probably done a better job against our opponents in developing the best exploitation of the exhausts and we are still the biggest losers in this story. »
Exhausts aren't Adrian Newey's only worry. The next single-seaters will have a completely different design compared to their older sisters, particularly on the front part where a plunging nose is expected. But it is the narrowness of the front wings that worries the British genius more. “The big problem will be the reduced front wing, which is a big change. A 100mm reduction doesn't sound like much but it's actually a major change as it places the deflectors flush with the center of the front tire. Added to this is also the engine which now becomes a very complicated monster. »
