Nico Rosberg on pole for the Mexican GP

Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) won his fifth pole of the season, the fourth in a row, after winning qualifying for the Mexican GP held at the Hermanos Rodriguez circuit. The German completed a lap in 1’19”480 to beat his teammate by almost two tenths Lewis Hamilton.

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) is the closest to the W06 Hybrid with almost four tenths behind the reference. The four-time world champion beat the Red Bull de Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo who failed by a thousandth of the Russian. THE Williams follow the RB11 with Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa before Max Verstappen (Toro Rosso) and the Force Indias of Sergio Pérez and Nico Hulkenberg.

Carlos Sainz Jr (Toro Rosso) was the first eliminated from Q2 at the Mexican GP by failing seven thousandths behind Nico Hulkenberg. Romain Grosjean (Lotus) failed in 12th position in front of his teammate Pastor Maldonado.

Marcus Ericsson (Sauber) is 14th in front Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) who tried to qualify with medium tires before encountering brake problems. The Finn should receive a five-place penalty following a gearbox change, but he should however start in front of the McLaren also sanctioned.

While Fernando Alonso (McLaren) was only able to take 16th position, his teammate Jenson Button was unable to take part in qualifying following a mechanical problem requiring a new engine change.
