Nico Rosberg on pole in the rain in Austin

The rain having increased in intensity at the end of Q2 of the US GP in Austin (Texas), the race management decided to stop qualifying after two sessions. Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) having been the fastest in the second session with a time of 1'56"824, the German won his third consecutive pole after being a tenth ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton.

The Red Bull de Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat are in second row, one second from the reference, preceding the Force Indias by Sergio Pérez and Nico Hulkenberg. If the Ferrari have pointed to the forefront, with Sebastian Vettel fifth despite contact with the safety rail in Q1, and Kimi Räikkönen eighth, the Ferrari drivers will have to move back ten places following a Power Unit change.

Felipe Massa (Williams) and Max Verstappen (Toro Rosso) thus find themselves in fourth row in front of Fernando Alonso (McLaren) and Valtteri Bottas (Williams). Romain Grosjean (Lotus) will start from 11th position.

If many pilots made mistakes, the only accident to deplore concerns the exit of the track Carlos Sainz Jr (Toro Rosso) in Q1. The Spaniard, already the victim of a violent exit during testing for the Russian GP in Sochi, once again damaged his STR11, but the driver was unhurt.

The start of the USA GP will be at 20 p.m. (French time) and will be followed live on Canal+ Sport and in live text on AUTOhebdo.fr. The latest forecasts predict better conditions for the race.
