No Grand Prix in Miami in 2019

A few days ago, the deadline for the arrival of a possible Grand Prix in Florida in Miami had been crossed, putting into doubt the integration of an event on the shores of the Atlantic for 2019.

This Monday, the F1, via its promoter Liberty Media, confirmed that such an event would not take place before 2020 at best. “Over the past few months, we have worked diligently alongside our promoter Stephen Ross of RSE Ventures, the City of Miami and Miami Dade County to achieve our desire to bring F1 to Miami, and we have made clear progress , comments Sean Bratches, F1's Director of Commercial Operations.

However, these are complicated negotiations. While our preference was for a race in Miami in 2019, there is still a point where delivering the best wheel-to-wheel racing experience to our fans, drivers and teams, would not have been possible on time.

We have now reached this point to race in Miami in 2019. However, we are taking a long-term view, and as a result we have decided, in consultation with the Miami authorities, to postpone the signing until later in the summer, with the ambition of competing in the first Grand Prix in Miami in 2020.

We've always said we don't want to compromise putting on the best race possible, for the people of Miami, our fans and the 1,8 billion people who watch F1 every year.

And if that means pushing back until 2020, then that's far preferable to signing for a non-optimal track just to sign a contract. »

The route of the potential Miami circuit seems to be one of the main concerns of Liberty Media, which indicates that it has adapted its plans for the organization of this event, including “elements of the circuit layout. ". Resident associations indeed seem to be on the front line in the current negotiations.

Liberty Media will, however, offer Florida fans a Fan Festival in Miami in October, undoubtedly based on the model adopted in London or Marseille recently.

Remember that F1 will once again travel to Austin, Texas this year, but will have to wait again before seeing more than one event on the annual calendar on American soil, as was the case in the 70s with the Grand Prix. of the United States, plus the Grand Prix of the United States West.
