Pérez: Mexico ready for F1 return

Sergio Pérez welcomed the news with undisguised joy. If the provisional calendar for the 2014 F1 season must still be validated by the next FIA World Council, it highlights the presence of Mexico in Mexico City on November 9 while the New Jersey Grand Prix no longer appears in the list. The Mexican GP could therefore return to the calendar after an absence of more than 20 years, the last edition having been held in 1992 (with the victory of Nigel Mansell). “I’m really excited. It's not official yet, it's just a first version of the calendar, but I feel that his return has a good chance of happening.", commented the pilot McLaren in the Monza paddock. “It would be fantastic for my country and for the sport. There F1 would be surprised to see how popular this Grand Prix can become. It would be huge for F1 to get us there. »

If the Mexican is excited about the idea of competing in a Grand Prix at home, he nevertheless remains aware that his country will have to make efforts to host F1. Despite the renovation work that this entails, Checo Pérez is confident in Mexico's ability to be ready on time for the return of F1 to its countries. “I know how good this track is. They obviously need to do some rebuilding work, but there is plenty of time. I really hope that this will be done for the good of the discipline and my country. They need to do some work in the pits to bring them up to F1 standard and perhaps review some corners. Other than that, it’s simply about what they are able to do in the time they have. But I don't think they have to make any big changes to get the track ready. »
