Pirelli: Changes limited by regulations

Pirelli wants to rectify the situation after having suffered numerous criticisms from certain teams who complained of excessive tire degradation. The supplier of the F1 Although he tried to increase the resistance of his hard tire for the Spanish Grand Prix, most of the drivers had to make four stops during the race to reach the finish of the event. The Italian manufacturer then indicated that it would carry out important changes for the Canadian Grand Prix contested on June 9.

But the FIA could prevent Pirelli from making such changes during the season. The Federation relies on article 12.6.3 of the technical regulations which prohibits all modifications to the tires except those for safety conditions. “Tyre specifications will be determined by the FIA no later than September 1 before the next season,” the regulations state. “Once these specifications have been determined, the tire specification will no longer change during the Championship without the agreement of all the teams. »

Pirelli could thus be limited to preventing any delamination phenomenon observed during the last Grands Prix. Unanimity will be difficult to obtain among the teams, Lotus F1 Team et Scuderia Ferrari having stated their disapproval of such a change on the rubbers.
