Pirelli: strategy will be essential in Singapore

If the Italian GP was relatively simple in terms of strategies, most of the drivers having only made one stop, the Singapore Grand Prix contested this September 17 should be much more complex. The teams will have at their disposal the softest tires in the Pirelli range to face the heat and the many turns (23) of the Marina Bay circuit.

“Singapore is the most exciting and unpredictable event of the season, where strategy plays a vital role in the final result, particularly thanks to the intervention of the safety car during the two hours which usually extends the big price. This is why pole position is historically “the place to be” at Marina Bay, making qualifying a crucial exercise.”, notes Mario Isola, competition director at Pirelli.

“In order to prepare for this, the teams will have to pay particular attention to the data recorded during free practice, because track temperatures at night evolve differently. Understanding this parameter will therefore be essential to find a good balance, manage degradation, and thus define the most effective tire strategy., adds Mario Isola.

Pirelli averaged two pit stops at the Singapore GP, but some drivers are daring a four-stint strategy.
