For Christian Horner, “the end of the season will still be very tight” with Mercedes

Building on their successful weekend in the United States, Red Bull and its boss Christian Horner are moving towards the end of the season with an almost comfortable margin of twelve points in the drivers' championship, facing Mercedes and Hamilton. But for the Briton, there is no question of getting carried away five races from the epilogue.

Unable to win a single race on American soil since 2013, Red Bull overcame this pseudo curse this weekend thanks to a duo Verstappen-Perez imperial, and a more than successful racing strategy. The boss of the team, Christian Horner, returned to this United States Grand Prix which, among other things, allowed his little protégé to maintain the lead in the championship, with a slight lead – Verstappen now has 12 points. advance on Hamilton.

Pérez, the renewed strength at the best of times

“At the start of the race, we had a very good pace in the mediums and Max (Verstappen) was able to put pressure on Lewis (Hamilton), but we knew that he is very strong at the end of the race. So we did what we had to do to get ahead in the pit stop game and Max hung on. He managed the race superbly, especially during his last stint on hard tires, to have enough of a lead at the end. »

Obviously, this victory is from an accounting point of view a very good move for the Milton Keynes team, with a view to the world title. But it is also for Sergio Pérez, whose home race is fast approaching – the Mexican Grand Prix will take place from November 5 to 7.

“It was a difficult race for Checo (Sergio Pérez) without a drinks system, but again the way he handled the race was fantastic and you can see he is gaining confidence with this second podium in a row. He had a phenomenal race and before his home Grand Prix coming up he is getting back into shape, which is crucial for us at this time of year. There are only five races left, and we know there are two or three where Mercedes will have the advantage and two or three where we will be strong. So the rest of the season will be very tight. »

Still so undecided, this season of Formula 1 will very quickly bring its share of answers, with nearly five Grands Prix in just seven weeks. But one thing is certain, Red Bull is certainly giving itself the means to put an end to Mercedes hegemony.
