Like several of his predecessors in the young pilot sector Renault before him, Christian Lundgaard made his debut at the wheel of a car de Formula 1 modern during a private test.
The 18-year-old Dane, who is currently playing in Formula 3 with ART Grand Prix, drove a 17 R.S.2017 at the Hungaroring in Budapest, where he won earlier this season in F3.
« Driving an F1 on a circuit: it’s a childhood dream that came true, Lundgaard said. I had already done some demonstrations but nothing comparable. I'm quite happy with myself, I managed to keep the car on the tarmac and we covered a lot of laps. I felt comfortable straight away, which is nice.
Going down the pit straight at full speed was an extraordinary feeling: the power of the brakes is impressive. I hope to have the opportunity to drive in F1 one day, that’s clearly my goal. I would like to thank Renault for this opportunity. It was quite surreal and a moment that I will remember for a very long time ».
The Formula 3 championship concludes next week in Sochi, Russia. Lundgaard is currently 5th in the Drivers' standings and best rookie in the field.
Today, Christian Lundgaard became the latest #RenaultSportAcademy Driver to test contemporary F1 machinery. @lundgaardoff was at the wheel of the RS17 at the Hungaroring, following in the wheel tracks of other RSA members.
