Renault played it safe at the Spanish GP

After the turmoil of the Bahrain GP where the Power Units of Renault suffered particularly, the Losange adopted a more cautious approach in Barcelona (Spain) by favoring reliability over power. This strategy proved effective since the Red Bull and Toro Rosso crossed the finish line, but the RB11s were not able to worry the leading teams, Daniel Ricciardo hoisting the first car powered by the French V6 in 7th place.

« We had to resolve the issues encountered and regain reliability before we could introduce any new developments, which sometimes meant limiting track driving over the weekend. This is not an ideal situation but sometimes we have to accept compromises in the short term for the benefit of the longer term?regret Cyril Abiteboul, the general director of Renault Sport F1.

Red Bull placed its two cars in the top ten at the Spanish GP with 10th place taken by Daniil Kvyat. The Toro Rosso were close to the RB11 in terms of performance since Carlos Sainz Jr took the points for 9th place. Max Verstappen failed at the points gate.
