Friday night, Daniel Ricciardo had chosen McLaren as the most dangerous stable for Renault in the middle of the table. The Australian actually took a full second to the car orange from Carlos Sainz Jr during qualifying on Saturday in Montreal (Canada), and completely interfered on the second row of the starting grid!
This is the first time that a Renault has occupied such a position since the official return of Losange as a team in 2016. It is the best time achieved since Robert Kubica's fourth time at Suzuka (Japan) in October 2010 .

“Wow… I never imagined I would be so happy about a fourth fastest time in qualifying, said Daniel Ricciardo whose smile recalled the good old days Red Bull. It's a bit comparable to a pole for us. The joy when I learned that we were fourth, it was great! Very fun!

I told my team to enjoy this moment, to achieve a fourth time you have to do it! I'm hoping to have a few people jump on me on the way back to my booth. I've always enjoyed this circuit, we seemed pretty fast today. Yesterday wasn't bad, but today was even better. I had a lot of fun (Laughter)."
Daniel Riccardo will have the advantage of starting Sunday with soft tires, which could advantage him during the first rounds. " The podium ? Oh, I can see it in the distance, of course, but we'll see. I know that the cars in front of us will start with medium tires. The start may be interesting, but as soon as the race pace settles, they will be a little faster”, he specifies at the microphone of Canal+.
