Ricciardo still wants to believe in Renault

Daniel Ricciardo does not give up despite a difficult season at home Renault. After three Grands Prix out of the points, the former driver Red Bull regained hope by finishing at the foot of the podium at Monza (Italy), a speed circuit where the RS 19 was more comfortable than on most other routes.

“Do I want to stay?” Yes because we do all this to progress, confided the Australian on BBC Sport. I really wanted to come here and I didn't intend to spend two years waiting. I know some people might think that, but I really wanted it to work. I feel like the hours of work I put in proved that I wanted this steering wheel…”

Renault must nevertheless succeed in its developments to improve the performance of its car. From 4th place on the field last year, the Losange finds itself 18 points behind McLaren, a customer team of the French engine manufacturer.

“It seems we were restricted by the basics of the car. We have improved it a little, but we cannot make any clear changes with the philosophy of this single-seater even if I am not saying that we have reached the limits., specified the teammate of Nico Hulkenberg. It seems that we are heading towards a completely different philosophy for next year's car in terms of aerodynamics. We should focus on the forces at the front more than the middle. It seems more complicated on paper, but it offers more points of support..."

Daniel Ricciardo already has his sights set on 2020 where the performance of his mount will be decisive on his future prospects.

“What do I want to see next year? Obviously progress, not just by one place, but improvements that allow us to fight for podiums at certain times. It would be encouraging and motivating for everyone…”, he added.

Daniel Ricciardo occupies 8th position in the championship with 3 points ahead of his teammate Nico Hülkenberg.
