Here it is: the Ferrari SF-24! The new designed frame has Maranello was unveiled this Tuesday noon by Scuderia Ferrari. A car which does not follow the path of its adversaries in terms of livery – the bare carbon fiber areas are discreet, and give way to a beautiful red dress. Little new this year: the yellow and white stripes that snake across the bodywork, a subliminal homage to the colors of the Prancing Horse coat of arms but also to the livery of the 499P, the winning Hypercar at the 24H of Le Mans 2023.

Like last year, the SF-24 and 499P share the same shade of red, this year again with a matte finish on the Formula 1 Italian. This is not the first time a Ferrari single-seater has worn yellow, although yellow longitudinal stripes have not been seen since 1968, while this year, for the first time ever, they are combined with white.

As since 2021, the Ferrari SF-24 will be entrusted to the pair Charles Leclerc - Carlos Sainz. The Scuderia will be led by Frédéric Vasseur for the second year in a row. “Introducing a new car to the world for the first time is always a very exciting moment for me and the drivers, although we are all already thinking about when we will face our rivals on the track, declares the French leader. This year we have to start where we left off at the end of last season, when we were consistently at the front, with the aim of constantly improving in all areas. »

“The longest season in Formula 1 awaits us and Charles, Carlos and I all agree that we need to be more critical and effective in our race management, making bold choices, in order to achieve the best result possible at each Grand Prix, he adds. It is often said that your fans can give you extra speed and this will certainly be true in this championship which will be very competitive and we are proud to know that we can count on our fans from all over the world. »

“Every part of the car has been redesigned” on the SF-24

The Ferrari SF-24 is a completely new single-seater compared to its predecessor, the SF-23. Frédéric Vasseur confided, last December, that “95% of the components” would be changed, which is confirmed by Enrico Cardile, technical director of the chassis.

“With the SF-24 we wanted to create an entirely new platform and, in fact, every part of the car was redesigned, although our starting point was the development direction we adopted last year and which allowed us to take a leap forward in terms of competitiveness in the latter part of the season, explains the Italian engineer. We took what the drivers told us and turned those ideas into technical reality, with the aim of giving them a car that was easier to drive and therefore easier to exploit and push to its limits. We set no design constraints other than delivering a solid, honest race car capable of reproducing on the track what we saw in the wind tunnel. »

The SF-24 will run on the track for the first time for filming and communication purposes, but these first kilometers will of course allow the Scuderia to carry out a shakedown and the drivers to get a first idea of the car's behavior on the track. She will then fly to Bahrain for pre-season testing (February 21-23).

Nice work of computer graphics! For the so-called livery reminiscent of the P499 livery, not easy because yellow and white were adopted with a certain parsimony... because paints are heavier than matte red? All these presentations have become non-events. Agree with Fernand that the private tests at the start of the season are extended for more time on the track but also the possibility of making a presentation worthy of the name! How far gone are the days when some people went for private tests during the southern summer in Kyalami or Jerez and organized real presentations of their new single-seaters...

“reminds us of Le Mans” It has to be said quickly!! the black fin is very ugly, as for the yellow there really isn't enough. But above all, what is this forfeiture, this a presentation? 1.35 images maybe even synthetic, when will there be a 2024 presentation to F1 standards?
