Sponsors in F1: the hidden filter of tobacco companies

Back for a new season, the teams unveil their car but also their new sponsors. McLaren notably presented a new sponsor; Velo, seller of nicotine tablets and electronic cigarettes. A comeback for tobacco companies that calls into question their presence in Formula 1.

Tobacco and Formula 1, a great dependence

Arriving in 1968 in the premier category, Gold Leaf became the first tobacco manufacturer to finance a team. The industry was already present in sponsorship by helping teams annually with equipment or like Stirling Moss and his successful relationship with BP (fuel). But Colin Chapman and the South African cigar maker joined forces in 1968, and the Lotus took on the manufacturer's red and white colors. 

Then followed a whole host of sponsorships: Gitanes with Ligier in 1976, Mild Seven with Benetton in 1994, Rothmans and Wil

Completely agree with you Eric, Camille Stocker Cassiède before writing this article with such big errors you need to find out, on Wikipedia for example!!!!!!

big errors in your article: Marlboro arrived in 1974 with Mac Laren, Gitanes with Ligier in 1976, and you could talk about JPS with Lotus
