Tilke: Baku circuit will be successful

The calendar of the F1 is updated with the return of the Mexican Grand Prix to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this season and the arrival of Baku which will host the European GP next year with a new urban circuit (and therefore different from the one used in Blancpain GT Series).

The design of the Azerbaijani track was once again entrusted to Hermann Tilke, the famous designer of the new F1 circuits. The German has often been criticized for designing layouts lacking in effectiveness in terms of spectacle. The Baku route presented last October was no exception.

Hermann Tilke wanted to defend his work by showing confidence in the interest of the circuit bordering the Caspian Sea. “You have to see the route in three dimensions. You can't get an idea just from photos." he assured Adam Cooper. “The track really goes back towards the old town following the foundations of the city wall from the 1200s and it will be really interesting. It is a 100% temporary circuit which will be installed on already existing roads. We will renovate some but not all. It is a very fast track which will offer a totally different challenge from other urban circuits. It will differ from that of Monaco or Singapore. »
