Tost: “It’s Red Bull’s decision to keep Kvyat”

The announcement of Daniil Kvyat's extension surprised part of the paddock of the F1. If the Russian managed to re-enter the top ten at the Singapore Grand Prix with a 9th place, he has only scored four points since the Spanish GP where he was demoted to Toro Rosso for the benefit of Max Verstappen.

This is especially bad news for Pierre Gasly, resident of Red Bull Junior Team, which was impatiently waiting to know the Red Bull's decision for 2017 when it had been given the mission of winning the GP2 Series title.

“It’s Red Bull’s decision to keep Kvyat, confirmed Franz Tost, Team Principal of Toro Rosso, on the official F1 website. Daniil deserves the wheel next year. He showed good performances in Singapore and he was also competitive in Malaysia and Japan (14th and 13th) with a car whose engine development (Ferrari) has been stopped and which delivers 60 to 70hp less. »

Franz Tost also gave his opinion on the teams' late announcements regarding crews for 2017 where the new regulations will come into force.

“It is firstly a question of the talent of the driver and secondly of the financial situation of the team, commented Franz Tost. Marketing can also play a role if bringing a driver to a team who is important to a certain sponsor or country. Covering all these aspects is not always easy. »
