Toyota leaves Formula 1

The news has been in the air for a few weeks, even if optimism was in order recently: Toyota is withdrawing from Formula 1 with immediate effect.

Toyota's departure had indeed been in the air for several weeks, but the signing of the Concorde agreements and Toyota's good sporting season suggested a possible continuation of the Japanese firm's F1 activities.

The president of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, indicated this Wednesday at a press conference that the manufacturer would refocus on its core business. This decision was also motivated by the company?s losses, while a recovery is expected from March 2010.
