“Unacceptable” behavior from Sauber drivers

Clean F1 Team probably did not need such an event in an already complicated situation for the training ofHinwil. While Felipe Nasr had been ordered to let his teammate Marcus Ericsson pass in the race at Monaco, the two drivers made contact at the Rascasse corner, following a somewhat daring maneuver by the Swede.

A collision which ultimately resulted in a double retirement for both drivers, and which did not fail to provoke the anger of Team Principal Monisha Kaltenborn. « This is unacceptable behavior from both drivers, asserts Kaltenborn. Today the work of the entire team was ruined in a collision.

Both Marcus and Felipe know the amount of work that goes into each race weekend. They have the responsibility to be at the finish. After assessing the overall situation, it was important to let the fastest car pass and take every available chance. Our decision was based on data from both cars. After the incident, we clarified the situation internally and both pilots are aware of their responsibilities. Such an incident must not happen again. »

Ericsson was sanctioned three places on the next starting grid in Canada by the race commissioners. The manager also wanted to congratulate her former driver Sergio Pérez for his Monegasque podium.
