Since he left Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas lives again. At the house of Alfa Romeo, the Finn has established himself as the No. 1 driver and is collecting big points every weekend. Often well placed in qualifying, sometimes even ahead of the Silver Arrows, the multiple Grand Prix winner exploits all the current potential of the C42. Before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix (June 10-12), Bottas already has 40 points in the championship, stuck in 8th place in the standings.

Finally freed from any team constraints at Alfa Romeo, Valtteri Bottas has become competitive again and he appreciates his situation in the Italian-Swiss team. “I think it was a very good start to the season, both in qualifying and in the race, judges the Finnish pilot. I'm in a happy, healthy environment, I can really try things, be the best version of myself and drive the way I want to drive. But like I said earlier, the atmosphere in the team is so motivating, people are pushing in the same direction and that's really inspiring for me too. And maybe that pushes you to do even more but yes, it's been a good start to the season. »

“Still things that need to be improved” believes Bottas

Although performance is good at Alfa Romeo, numerous mechanical problems are slowing down the progress of Frédéric Vasseur's team. Often upset by reliability concerns or clutch problems at the start, Valtteri Bottas judges that his car still has a lot of potential to deliver. “Obviously there are still things that need to be improved. We are still working on the race starts, which were not very good, and on the high speed stability of the car. We are not at the limit yet, there will be more to come. It was a good start to the season, but we can always do better. »

In Azerbaijan, Valtteri Bottas, victorious in Baku in 2019, will want to seek a seventh top 10 in eight races. Objective: keep Alfa Romeo in the race for 4th place in the manufacturer standings.
