La Formula 1 continues to offer new, ever more immersive broadcast angles. After the widespread use of the “Helmet Cam” this season, a new camera will be tested for the British Grand Prix: the “Pedal Cam”. Lando Norris will be the guinea pig for the experiment at Silverstone: a camera will be installed in the cockpit of the McLaren, to film the pedals and manipulations carried out by the drivers during a race.
The “Pedal Cam” is not new since this camera had already been used in the 90s. Its last appearance dates back to the 2000 season, during the Belgian Grand Prix in Pedro de la Rosa's Arrows. It was also installed in Ukyo Katayama's Tyrrell in 1993.
Depending on the result of this first experiment, Formula 1 explains that “The technology will be evaluated and perfected, with the ambition of deploying it across the entire grid in future races. » The first images of the “Pedal Cam” will be shown during the first free practice session on Friday afternoon.

Formula 1 Broadcast and Media Director Dean Locke details the Pedal Cam project: “This camera continues the innovations we have introduced to bring fans closer to the action. F1 drivers must simultaneously complete a number of complex tasks at speeds of up to 320 km/h. This camera angle will help our fans understand the challenge of being in a cockpit. We are very excited to have this camera on Lando's car. We hope his fans, and all fans at Silverstone this weekend, enjoy this unique insight.”
