Unfortunate or timely rain for Lotus?

The showers that disrupted free practice at Hockenheim were particularly annoying for Lotus F1 Team which had to test a new DRS on the car of Kimi Räikkönen who must optimize the top speed of the E20 in a straight line. The Finn regrets this bad weather even though good weather is expected for the race. “We didn't learn much today with these weather conditions, it was like Silverstone”, regrets the 2007 world champion. “We tested a few things that some people noticed, it would be nice to have more time in the dry but there's nothing we can do about it. The trail seems quite slippery when wet. »

Si Romain Grosjean also saw his testing be limited, the Frenchman was not testing the new DRS and was able to concentrate on his preparation for the rest of the weekend. The reigning GP2 Series champion is hoping to take advantage of the situation to make up for his five-place penalty imposed after a gearbox replacement. “The session was difficult as soon as the rain arrived but we should have more rain tomorrow and it was good to be able to test the wet and intermediate tires. If we were to have a Sunday without being able to complete any laps in the dry, the paddock will not have a clear vision of the degradation of the tires (first year at Hockenheim with Pirelli) of the difference between the compounds and that could help me starting behind on the grid despite his penalty. »
