Vettel dominates qualifying in Montreal

The fight for qualifying will have been particularly hotly contested in the peloton, but Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) had no other objective than pole today. The reigning double world champion set a time of 1'13"784 to try to offer Red Bull's first victory on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit and signs the 32nd pole of his career. Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) will be the German's biggest threat at the start, the 2008 world champion having been closest to the first RB8 with two tenths behind. The Briton will try to become the seventh winner this season. There Team Ferrari has shown a better pace since Monaco since Fernando Alonso takes third place on the grid while his teammate Felipe Massa will start from sixth row. The two teammates will be separated by Mark Webber (Red Bull) and Nico Rosberg (Mercedes).

After snatching his seventh consecutive Q3 this year, Romain Grosjean (Lotus) managed to qualify seventh ahead of Paul di Resta (Force India). The reigning GP2 champion beat his teammate Kimi Räikkönen who failed to qualify in Q3 and had to settle for 12th position. Michael Schumacher (Mercedes) and Jenson Button (McLaren) complete the top ten, but the Briton adopted a different strategy by switching to soft tires for Q3 in order to start tomorrow with a different strategy compared to his direct rivals. Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso) failed again in Q1 and will only start from 20th place behind the two Caterham drivers. Charles Pic (Marussia) is penultimate just behind his teammate Timo Glock.

The start of the Canadian Grand Prix will be given tomorrow evening at 20 p.m. French time.
