Vettel escapes punishment

This Monday, July 3, a meeting took place between Sebastian Vettel, Maurizio Arrivabene and FIA officials in Paris. The federation wanted to open a new investigation into the deliberate collision with Lewis Hamilton during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Following this meeting, the pilot Ferrari acknowledged full responsibility for his act and apologized to the governing bodies and the world of motorsport. This attitude allowed Jean Todt to close the case without additional sanctions against the German pilot.

Vettel will have a 12-month mission to promote the values of motorsport in the FIA promotions championships F2, F3 and F4. Furthermore, if such a situation were to recur, Jean Todt warned Vettel that he would go directly before the FIA International Tribunal.

« High-level sport is in the middle of an intense environment and tempers can get heated, comments the president of the FIA. However, it is up to athletes to manage this pressure calmly and to behave in such a way that they respect the rules of the sport. »
