Vettel: Performance is not degraded

Sebastian Vettel had assured that the debates concerning the engine mapping of the RB8s were disproportionate to the advantage provided. The drivers only had half of the second session to set a time on the soft tires before the rain arrived. The two-time reigning world champion achieved the eighth time, eight tenths behind the time of Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) while his teammate Mark Webber was satisfied with 14th fastest time. The German remains in his position and seems confident about the performance of the Red Bull cars on the Hungarian Tourniquet.

“There has been a lot of discussion about this but if you knew what was going on behind the scenes you wouldn't be as interested in everything that has been said in recent days”, said the German in the Hungaroring paddock. “Fortunately there will be new newspapers tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and particularly on Monday. So we are focusing on the race to make sure we read good news in the Monday papers. The impact is much less significant than what was imagined (by people outside the team). It is certain that we would take back what we had at Hockenheim if we had the choice but, as I said yesterday, the gap in performance is difficult to measure. »

Renault Sport F1 specified that at the end of the two test sessions contested with the new engine maps, the engineers of Viruses-Châtillon had not noted any significant differences, except the increased workload on the part of its staff to ensure that the level of performance of the RS27 was maintained.
