Vettel: Tires don't hold well enough

Sebastian Vettel is best placed on the starting grid for the Spanish Grand Prix behind the Mercedes by Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. By securing third place on the grid ahead of his direct rival Kimi Räikkönen, the Championship leader will have a great opportunity to aim for a third victory this season if the Silver Arrows continue to suffer from excessive tire degradation during the race. The three-time world champion is therefore satisfied with this result even if the wear of the tires also concerns him.

“I must admit that I am quite satisfied.”, said the pilot Red Bull at a press conference. “I was satisfied with my last sector, I get used to it over the years. I wasn't really satisfied with the behavior of the car in the last sector but it was better this afternoon and we were able to achieve good qualifying. Unlike most drivers, I only qualified with the medium tires. The race will be decided above all with the tires. We saw during the winter tests that we could not go very far. The better conditions are helping a little now, but the challenge will remain great because the tires don't last as long as we would like. »
