Vettel wins Brazilian Grand Prix

If Red Bull feared the start of the Brazilian Grand Prix due to the pole position of Nico Hulkenberg, the two men of Milton Keynes were not bothered for long by the young German. Indeed, from the first turns of the race, Hülkenberg gave way in front Sebastian Vettel then Mark Webber, allowing the duo to escape.

However, Fernando Alonso (Ferrari), fourth behind the 2009 GP2 champion, had to wait until the 7th lap to pass his rival and climb to third place. The Spaniard, at this stage of the race, had already lost ten seconds on the two Red Bull drivers, who firmly took control of the race.

Nico Hülkenberg having formed a procession during the first laps, Jenson Button (McLaren) then attempted a first stop very early, gaining numerous places on this occasion. At the end of the salvo of refueling, the Briton returned to fifth position, behind Lewis Hamilton (McLaren).

On the other hand, the pit stops of the contenders for the title of World Champion did not upset the classification of the race. Each driver returned to their place on hard tires: Vettel ahead of Webber, Alonso ten seconds behind the Australian, Hamilton the same distance from Alonso and Button even further behind.

Tonio Liuzzi (Force India), destroying his car on the 51st lap, however, reignited the suspense of the race, due to the entry of the safety car onto the track. The McLaren drivers took the opportunity to try a bet, the two men putting on a set of new tires: hard compounds for Hamilton, super soft for Button.

But the entry of the safety car onto the track ultimately did not change the leading positions, the McLaren drivers quickly losing ground on Fernando Alonso. As for Sebastian Vettel, he resumed his march forward, increasing his lead over Mark Webber to five seconds, ten laps from the finish.

The German driver then headed towards a victory allowing him to put himself back in the title race. Sebastian Vettel, thanks to the 25 points from his victory, now has 231 points and is only 15 points behind Fernando Alonso, still leader of the World Championship. Formula 1. Mark Webber, second, is eight points behind Alonso and seven points ahead of Vettel. Lewis Hamilton, fourth, is 24 points behind Alonso and remains, mathematically, in the race for the title. As for Jenson Button, fifth, 47 points behind Alonso, he is now eliminated from this title race. He will therefore not retain his crown acquired in 2009. For the first time in five years, the drivers leave Interlagos without knowing the identity of the World Champion.

On the other hand, the title of World Constructors' Champion is now assured to Red Bull Racing. The Milton Keynes team, thanks to their fourth double of the season, secured definitive first place in this ranking. This is the first global award for the energy drink brand's team, which failed behind Brawn GP in 2009.
