Speed on the pit lane, wearing a helmet: what changes this weekend in Hungary

It won?t have dragged on. Between the German Grand Prix, where an FOM cameraman suffered head injuries after being hit by a loose wheel on the car by Mark Webber, and that of Hungary which begins this weekend, the FIA and the World Council have agreed to adopt several measures to strengthen the safety of the pit lane.

As recommended two days after the incident, articles 23.11 and 30.12 of the sporting regulations have been modified. The first, which regulates the intervention of mechanics during pit stops, now requires all team members who go to the pit lane to wear a helmet. Previously, only people who worked directly on single-seaters were affected by this measure.

The second article concerns the speed of Formula 1 when they take the pit lane. Until now limited to 100 lm/h (with the exception of Melbourne, Monaco and Singapore where it is 60 km/h), the FIA has decided to reduce everything to 80 km/h.

Furthermore, television teams will now be authorized to exercise their profession only from the pit wall.
