Webber: Driving made the difference

Mark Webber put in a great performance this afternoon in the particularly difficult qualifying at Silverstone, taking the front row alongside the pole sitter Fernando Alonso who is ahead of the Australian by 47 thousandths. The pilot Red Bull was able to perfectly acclimatize to the changes in grip on the track which dried out at the end of the session and to the different types of rubber by switching from rain tires to intermediate tires thanks in particular to a car properly tuned for wet conditions.

“It was a very difficult session, in truth we didn’t really know what we were doing”, recognizes the Red Bull driver. “You can only focus on yourself. Performing a correct lap without making any mistakes in all sectors was a very perilous exercise. In a session like this, we can have differences of five to ten seconds between each session and it is a huge challenge for the drivers who must manage to feel confident in these conditions and at the wheel of their car. The mechanics did a superb job which allowed me to be neck and neck with Alonso for pole. »
