Did Webber want to hit Alonso?

For Gerhard Berger, there is no doubt: Mark Webber, when leaving the track in Korea, wanted to spear one of his rivals as he passed. Christian Horner formally denies this.

Did Webber want to hit Alonso?

Mark Webber (Red Bull), by making a mistake during the 19th lap of the Korean Grand Prix, would he have taken the opportunity to try to hit one of his rivals in the race for the World Champion title? The Australian, after losing control of his car and hitting the rail, returned to the track, catching Nico Rosberg (Mercedes), which was happening at that time (see video).

For Gerhard Berger, former pilot of F1 and former co-owner of Toro Rosso, the Australian wanted to spear one of his rivals for the title, starting with Fernando Alonso (Ferrari), who followed the Red Bull driver. “ He could have hit the brakes and stopped along the rail, he estimates for Servus TV. He hit Rosberg but it was not the right one. I think, in his head, he would have preferred Alonso or Hamilton. »

If Gerhard Berger's words are surprising, the Austrian argues his theory. “ For me, it's obvious. We can see that the wheels are not blocked. Maybe he had brake problems but I don't think so. I rather think he wanted to take someone with him. » For his part, Nico Rosberg « doesn't understand why Webber didn't step on the brake pedal ”, affirming that he was “ fou » to return to the track.

As for Christian Horner, Red Bull team manager, he puts aside the Gerhard Berger hypothesis. “ As always in F1, people talk without having all the elements in their possession, he explains to the Telegraph. Mark?s intention was absolutely not to hit another driver. It?s ridiculous to pretend otherwise. »
