The DMSB (German Motorsport Federation) will organize a meeting on April 7 to find quick solutions to be implemented to improve safety on the Nordschleife (the North Loop of the Nürburgring) following Jann Mardenborough's accident which cost the life of a spectator on the Flugplatz bend.
This discussion will bring together safety experts, professional drivers, amateurs, manufacturer representatives, commissioners and representatives of the organizers of the VLN and the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Time is running out since many categories have been temporarily banned, except for SP10 which has been reinstated.
« The aim is to find solutions that improve safety on the Nordschleife”, commented Hans-Joachim Stuck, President of the DMSB. “The track, the spectator areas, the cars, the sporting regulations… Everything will be studied in detail. We will think about solutions both in the short term and the long term, so that the sport will still be possible on this circuit in ten or 20 years. »
The objective for the DMSB is to maintain the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring with as many competitors as possible and categories. The qualifying race is scheduled for April 11 while the Green Hell double-round is scheduled for May 16-17.
