Alex Zanardi will return to the seat in the Italian GT Championship

Having just won his 11th and 12th para-cycling world titles (in relay with Italy and in a time trial) a few days ago in the Netherlands, Alessandro zanardi will return to the competitive seat at the beginning of October.

The 52-year-old Italian will be lined up at the wheel of a BMW M6 GT3 from BMW Team Italia, for the penultimate round of the Italian GT Championship organized on the Mugello circuit.

A track that brings back good memories for the double CART champion, since he won the Sunday championship race there two years ago, with this same BMW M6 GT3.

“It’s been a few months since my last race at Daytona (on a Team RLL M8 GTLM alongside John Edwards, Jesse Krohn and Chaz Mostert, for 9th place in the category) and I can't wait to get back behind the wheel, Zanardi says.

BMW Team Italia led by my old friend Roberto Ravaglia is also a second family to me, like the BMW M Motorsport engineers, who have been at my side for many years.

The other memory, but not the least, remains the victory in 2016, during my debut in a BMW M6 GT3. It was an unforgettable and indescribable weekend. I already know that I will enjoy the preparation and the Mugello race from the first moment to the last. »

In order to best prepare for this meeting, where he will share the wheel with Erik Johansson and Stefano Comandini, tests have already been organized at Adria. Zanardi will drive the BMW M6 GT3 without his prosthetic legs, and will brake with the manual system previously developed by BMW engineers.

The steering wheel used by the Italian will once again be specific, and will be changed at each stint between the drivers.
