Audi unveils the program for its R8 LMS

In 2010, Audi supported several teams at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and Spa. Unfortunately for the Ingolstadt firm, victory was never achieved. This year, the brand with the rings is renewing the experience. Four Audi R8 LMS will be lined up during these two rounds of the clock with the aim of registering the name of Audi for the first time in these two events.

On the Nordschleife, in Germany (next June 25 and 26), the two teams requisitioned will be ABT Sportsline and Phoenix Racing, which represent the German manufacturer in DTM. Within the first, five-time DTM Team Champion, we will find the two double DTM champions Mattias Ekström and Timo Scheider. They will be supported by the three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Marco Werner. The sister car will be entrusted to Christer Jöns, Luca Ludwig and Christopher Mies. Christian Abt will provide support on both cars. A role that will be assumed by Frank Stippler at Phoenix. Within this team, the two R8 LMS will also be driven by Marc Basseng – Marcel Fässler – Mike Rockenfeller and Christopher Haase – Marc Hennerici – Markus Winkelhock.

At the 24 Hours of Spa (July 30 and 31), we will once again find Phoenix Racing, which will put its trust in the crews Marc Basseng – Christopher Haase – Frank Stippler and Marcel Fässler – Andrea Piccini – Mike Rockenfeller. The other team present on the Belgian Ardennes slide will be the WRT team, which will play at home. At the wheel of these two R8s we will find Mattias Ekström, Greg Franchi and Timo Scheider on the first and Filipe Albuquerque, Bert Longin and Stéphane Ortelli on the second.

Among these drivers, two will be entered by the brand with the rings at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Nürburgring and Spa. These are Marcel Fässler and Mike Rockenfeller. In the space of two months, Audi will aim for victory in three 24 Hour races.
