The FIA GT championship will have, from the 24 Hours of Spa, a Brazilian team. The Luxembourg team DKR Engineering has reached an agreement with a Brazilian company to compete in the rest of the FIA GT season, starting with the Belgian round. The team will be called Sangari team Brazil, revealed Stéphane Ratel, president of SRO, promoter of the Grand Touring championship. To drive the Corvette C6.R prepared by DKR, the choice fell on a 100% Brazilian crew, made up of Roberto Streit, a driver of car having distinguished himself in Japan, and the former pilot of Formula 1 (2001-2002), Enrique Bernoldi. As a reminder, Sangari was one of Bernoldi's main sponsors when he raced in IndycarIn 2008.
« We are delighted to welcome Sangari Team Brazil, welcomed Stéphane Ratel. Attracting foreign drivers is one of our first objectives, in order to create interest around GT in their country. We hope that having a Brazilian car in the FIA GT Championship in 2009 will be a first step towards establishing a race in Brazil, on behalf of the FIA GT1 World Championship in 2010 or 2011. »
