Five Audis entered in the FIA GT World Cup in Macau

A real squadron will defend the Audi colors during the FIA GT World Cup in Macau (November 18-19). The German manufacturer will send five R8 LMS for three official drivers and two private entries.

Title holder in the streets of Macau (despite Laurens Vanthoor’s accident), Audi wants to preserve its property and has several tricks up its sleeve. Lucas di Grassi will return to the winding 6,2 kilometer circuit, twelve years after his category victory Formula 3. The Brazilian will compete under the colors of the German team HCB-Rutronik Racing and will face a comrade from Formula e, Felix Rosenqvist.

Another notable entrant, Robin Frijns. The recent winner of the Blancpain GT Sprint Cup will once again rub shoulders with the Belgian WRT team, which has already enjoyed success in the former Portuguese colony in 2016. The Dutchman will team up with Nico Müller, 12th in the DTM this season and winner of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring with Audi in 2015, already in the company of the WRT.

Finally, two pilots engaged in private structures will lend a hand. Markus Pommer, formerly of Formula 3 Europe, will drive for Aust Motorsport, and Fabien Plentz for HCB-Rutronik Racing. The latter finished eighth in the GT event last year in Macau.

“It’s a very strong roster.”, believes Chris Reinke, director of Audi Sport customer racing. “The new collaboration with HCB-Rutronik Racing allows Lucas di Grassi to start among the favorites, just like Nico Müller and Robin Frijns. »
