Corvette triumphs at Portimao

The Corvette-Maserati duel, on the Portimao circuit, turned to the advantage of the Americans. By finishing in the first two places, the C6.Rs made a splash, coming very close to a masterstroke with fourth place for the Sangari Team Brasil Corvette. One minute from the end of the countdown, Enrique Bernoldi was still third, on the verge of offering a magnificent hat-trick for Corvette. But, after two hours of racing, four cars were still wheel to wheel. If, at the front, the domination of the No. 3 Corvette suffered no challenge, in front of the No. 4 Corvette, the No. 8 of Bernoldi was under permanent threat from the No. 12 Maserati MC 2 of? Alex Müller.

Starting from pole, the No. 2 Maserati did not lose everything since Alex Müller managed to snatch the podium by overtaking Enrique Bernoldi in the very last corners. And, not far from there, the other two Maseratis tried to take advantage of the windfall to relegate the Corvette to the background. But Bernoldi's heroic defense made it possible to count three C6.Rs in the first four places.

Crossing the finish line, James Ruffier was happy to finally offer victory to the Selleslagh Racing Team. Until then, his tandem with Bert Longin had only allowed the No. 3 Corvette to finish from 4th to 6th place in all the races of the season. But the duo in the second Corvette, that of Pekaracing, was just as happy. With their second place, combined with the fifth place of Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini (stuck by Bernoldi in the last hectometers of the race), Mike Hezemans and Anthony Kumpen take first place in the championship, tied on points with the crew of the No. 1 Maserati, reigning champion.

It is therefore during the last two races of the season that the FIA GT title will be contested. The next race, on the Paul Ricard circuit in Castellet, promises spectacle and twists and turns. The Corvette-Maserati duel should still be in full swing there.
