Mardenborough VLN crash: spectator dies

The start of the VLN season was marked by tragedy. A terrible accident caused the death of a spectator following a violent exit from the track by Jann Mardenborough at the Nürburgring who was at the wheel of the No. 23 Nissan GT-R Nismo. Four people were also hospitalized. The race was immediately stopped to allow emergency services to intervene.

According to certain photos published on social networks, we see the Nissan on the roof after having probably passed over the fences bordering the track. Jann Mardenborough, who came out at Flugplatz, is standing and does not appear to be injured.

A video posted online shows the Nissan taking off after the Flugplatz jump before hitting a wall of tires head-on, throwing the car off the track.

“After examinations at the medical center, Jann Mardenborough was taken to the hospital for routine examinations”, Nissan said in a statement. “The events of today are a tragedy. We are all shocked and saddened and our thoughts are with the missing, the injured, their families and friends. »
