Disappointment for Marc VDS Racing

Podium hopes for the #40 of Bas Leinders and Marc Hennerici were slim for the Championship race, with the crew only starting from 14th position at the start. But the No. 41 of Maxime Martin and Frédéric Makowiecki had a lot to play for starting from fifth position.

However, the race proved difficult for both crews, with the #41 falling to sixth position after 29 laps. “I always had the Nissan (#21 from Brabham? Campbell-Walter) in my mirrors which could overtake me at any time”, explains Maxime Martin. “On the last lap, I had to try a maneuver on Müller (Aston Martin n°7) in order to prevent the Nissan from doing the same thing to me. It cost me two places with Brabham and Piccini (Aston Martin n°4). »

The #40 Ford GT also had a complicated race with a collision at the start of the race. “Starting from the back of the grid is never easy, everyone had already left at the first corner”, remembers Bas Leinders. “I attacked and tried to pass Vanina (Ickx, #9 Ford GT), but we touched and my steering was damaged, which took a while for the car to be repaired. I was still able to pass a few cars after several laps. We could have aimed for a top ten, so this 12th place is disappointing. »
