FIA GT – Karun Chandhok with Seyffarth Motorsport

It will be in the FIA GT Series. After the Formula 1 and appearances in the world championshipEndurance (WEC), Karun Chandhok has just reached an agreement at the last minute to participate in the new competition bringing together the cream of GT which begins this weekend at Nogaro. The former driver of the defunct HRT team joins the Seyffart Motorsport team and will be entrusted with a Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 for the duration of the season. He will team up with Jan Seyffarth, the son of Rudiger, the owner of the German team.

“My initial plan was to try to do a GT program in addition to continuing to race in a prototype”, explains the Indian. “I really wanted to get some experience in GT to open doors for myself in the future. I can't wait to start racing for Seyffarth, even if it's all done at the last minute. I was able to quickly test the car at Hockenheim last week when I went to meet the team, but the real test that we had planned for this Tuesday at Spa was canceled. Driving the Mercedes was a lot of fun, but I have no idea if we are going to be competitive. I imagine we will find out in Nogaro”, says Karun Chandhok.

As for his Endurance program, the Indian driver still hopes to race in 24 Hours of Le Mans This year. “I have two or three options in LM P2. I really want to go back and I would love to do it again aboard a prototype. For his debut in the Le Mans classic last year, Karun Chandhok placed sixth aboard a JRM Racing HPD ARC-03a LM P1.
