FIA GT – Zandvoort: Vanthoor and Ortelli winners of the qualifying race

The Sebastian Loeb Racing is experiencing new disillusionment at Zandvoort. While Alvaro Parente, Sébastien Loeb’s Portuguese teammate on the McLaren n ° 9, had won pole position in the qualifying race, the MP4-12C star of the Alsatian team abandoned from the start following contact between the MP4-12C then entrusted to Parente and the Mercedes AMS SLS n°2 HTP Gravity Charouz by Andreas Simonsen. Laurens Vanthoor took the opportunity to put the No. 8 Audi R11 LMS of the Belgian Audi Club Team WRT into the lead of the race. If on the other Belgian R8 his teammate Niki Mayr-Melnhof took control of the event in the No. 12 Audi, Stéphane Ortelli regained first place by taking over in the No. 11.

The second SLS AMG from the HTP Gravity-Charouz team was still on pace to take the lead. Maximilian Buhk was able to pass the #8 R13 LMS of Edward Sandström before overtaking the sister car of Niki Mayr-Melnhof late in the race. Team WRT still achieved an excellent performance by placing its three Audis in the first four places. Caca Bueno and Allam Khodair placed their Team Brazil BMW Z4 in the top five, while Mike Parisy and Andreas Zuber saved a sixth place for Sébastien Loeb Racing. Disappointment is in order for AF Corse which sees the Ferrari 458 Italia of Filip Salaquarda and Fabio Onidi retired after 12 laps while starting from sixth position.
