Grosjean already winner in GT1

The GT1 World Championship is therefore officially launched with the first races of this season which heralds a new era for GT1. If the stands were not extremely packed, the spectacle was there this Saturday. Following Natacha Gachnang's accident yesterday, qualifying was shortened and the starting grid did not reflect the true potential of the cars present.

Starting in eleventh position in the first race, called qualifying, Romain Grosjean thus brought up the entire peloton at the wheel of the No. 5 Ford GT to give the wheel to Thomas Mutsch in the best conditions. The crew was thus able to finish in second place, score six points, and glean second position on the starting grid for the “championship” race. It even turned into pole due to the penalty imposed on the Corvette Z06 of the winners, Andreas Zuber and Marc Hennerici.

During the so-called championship race, it was Thomas Mutsch who started the proceedings, holding his own against the Maserati MC12 of Andrea Bertolini and the Corvette Z06 of Andreas Zuber. Of the three leading cars, it was the #5 Ford GT which entered first, so that Romain Grosjean completed the last half hour of the race.

It's then the Maserati that stops, then the Corvette, and Romain Grosjean manages to keep the controls each time. Coming out just ahead of Marc Hennerici, the Frenchman did not tremble and then increased his lead to score the 25 points of victory, on his 24th birthday! “ Thomas did an incredible job keeping the car at the front and I'm very happy as you can imagine », commented the former Renault driver F1 Team upon arrival.

Mutsch and Grosjean lead the GT1 championship with 31 points, having collected the 25 points for victory in the championship race, while having collected six points in the qualifying race. Marc Hennerici and Andreas Zuber follow with 26 points (8 + 18).
