Jamie Whincup returns to the Race of Champions

Jamie Whincup will return to compete in the Race of Champions which will take place this year in Barbados. The Australian is the fourth driver to confirm his presence.

Jamie Whincup returns to the Race of Champions

Jamie Whincup joins the list of drivers registered for the next Race of Champions contested on December 13 and 14 at the Bushy Park Circuit in Barbados (Caribbean). The five-time V8 Supercars champion who still currently leads the Drivers' standings will join Romain Grosjean, Tom Kristensen et Ryan Hunter Reay who have already confirmed their presence. The Australian will return to participate in this event after a first experience in 2012.

“I really enjoyed my first visit to the ROC in 2012 in Bangkok (Thailand) and I will use my experience to be more competitive this time in Barbados”, comments Jamie Whincup who will compete in the Bathurst 1000 next week. “It was my first time driving a left-hand drive car and a bit of practice over the next few months should help me for this event. »

Jamie Whincup returns to the Race of Champions

Jamie Whincup completes the list of Race of Champions drivers which already includes: Michael Schumacher, Tom Kristensen, Sébastien Ogier, Karun Chandhok and Narain Karthikeyan. The four-time V8 Supercars champion will come to defend the colors of Australia on December 14 and 15 at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. The leader of the Australian Championship managed to reach the semi-finals of the Nations Cup last year with Mick Doohan, figure of the Moto GP.

“I couldn’t be happier than returning to the Race of Champions”, comments the Triple Eight driver who narrowly missed out on victory last weekend at Bathurst against Mark Winterbottom. “I really enjoyed my trip to Bangkok last year and my experience as a beginner will allow me to be more competitive this year. My biggest weakness was getting used to driving on the left and I'm already training in Australia with an adapted car. »
